Tonight at Sydney University the Dropbears, along with RIGS (robotics IGS) were doing a variety of activities. Both the Drop Bears and RIGS were continuing the Mad Maker challenge. The MadMaker challenge is an online learning program that teaches participants how to code Arduino “ESPLORA” boards.

The RIGS students thought the MadMaker activity was “Fun, engaging and challenging.” The challenge covers a large variety of function the boards can do, such as serial ports and an accelerometer, knowing these skills can be very useful in the long run.

A few other people were not at last Monday’s meeting and were catching up to the rest in the MadMaker challenge.

Later in the evening a group of students and mentors discussed and finalised the student’s leadership for the coming season and had a general discussion about the team. They came to the conclusion that Ava would be team captain, Michael would be the second in command (2IC) for Software and Ryan would be the 2IC for Mechanical.

A small group of students adapted and used what they had learnt from MadMaker, they used the “ESPLORA” Arduino board to create a controller to play Minecraft on.

Overall the meeting was fun and engaging, we all learnt a lot of useful information about robotics and its uses. The meeting had a friendly hardworking vibe.

To put this all together, every Monday we learn something new and think different; gaining skills and knowledge about robotics.
